Research Projects

The research projects of marinom GmbH are based on the extensive experience of our engineering teams in the development of autonomous maritime systems. Particular emphasis is placed on the experimental validation of novel approaches in control systems, sensor technologies and data analytics.
By combining technical expertise with experimental approaches, we develop solutions that enhance the capabilities of existing systems while establishing the foundation for future technological advancements.

COLREG

Ship-handling simulators play a central role in the training of captains, officers and pilots. This taining includes, among other aspects, the rules for preventing collisions, the so-called COLREGs (Convention on the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea), which form part of international maritim law.

The objective of this project is to develop assessment software for ship-handling simulators that automatically evaluates, in real time, the actions of the person operating the simulator, i.e. the trainee, with respect to COLREG-compliant behavior. Through configuration, the assessment software can verify compliance with arbitrary combinations of collision-prevention rules and support instructions in assessing trainees in the ship-handling simulator. This makes the assessment and training process more efficient. The assessment software will be integrated into and tested within the ship-handling simulator at Hochschule Bremen.
